What is Crossfit

You can never underestimate the benefits of exercise.  Regular exercise goes a long way towards improving the strength of your bones, which is why it is a great treatment for osteoporosis.  It also will build muscle that supports your joints.  Exercise helps improve your self esteem, and increases confidence.  It also serves as a great way to relieve stress, with the endorphins released in your body being a natural antidepressant.  This is all common knowledge in today’s world, yet many people find that they do not get the strength and muscle tone they set out to achieve with their exercise program.  Consider taking your workout to the next level with the CrossFit program.

The CrossFit program is put together to achieve a greater fitness level while not simply focusing on any one exercise.  This regimen is designed to prepare your body for any sports or engaging physical activity.  The focus is on the core strength and conditioning of your body.  With a different routine everyday, your core strength and major muscle groups benefit in a well rounded fashion, affecting your overall health as well as getting and staying in shape.  The CrossFit program has captured a lot of attention from those who require physical fitness for their line of work.  Top performing athletes, various military personnel and police officers from around the world are taking note, and adopting this method of exercise to get a higher level of fitness from their routines.  They recognize how powerful this program can be as it balances ten separate categories of physical fitness: Stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, heart and lung endurance, coordination, balance and accuracy.

Traditional exercise routines typically involve going to the gym 4 or 5 days per week, focusing on a different group of muscles for at least 60 minutes.  This requires a high level of commitment as we live in a fast paced world, with most people simply not having both the time and/or drive to stick to such a schedule.  The biggest obstacle for most is time, spending an hour at the gym several days a week is something that most people simply cannot commit to.  In many cases people do not get the results that they wanted to achieve.  This is why the CrossFit program has gained such notoriety in a short amount of time.  In many cases the programs are designed to be completed in 20 minutes or less.  These shorter sessions end up being far more beneficial than having to skip out on a longer program every now and then.  It is far easier to stick to a program that requires less of your precious time.  On top of that, the workouts are more challenging and fun because of the wide variety of exercises you will be doing.  The changing routines go a long way towards improving your core strength and fitness, while keeping you from getting bored.  This will make it easier to commit to the program, the fun in trying something different all the time is sure to keep you interested.  A greater variety also increases the challenge, which gets better results in a reasonable length of time.

One of the best things about the CrossFit program is that absolutely everyone can use the same routines used by many elite athletes throughout the world.  The Crossfit program is completely scalable, able to be used by anyone at any skill level.  It is also able to be adapted for people who suffer from various chronic illnesses such as heart disease or diabetes.  Remember that the WOD posted on the CrossFit website is designed for elite athletes, so tone it down a bit and start out easy.  Hurting yourself doesn’t do anything towards improving your fitness.  Remember that the reason it is used by professionals is that it is a very powerful program.  You will not become a world class athlete in only a few sessions.  Have a friend or a personal trainer who uses the CrossFit program help you find what works.  Keep at it and remember that the exercise routines run in a cycle so after a few weeks you will be able to compare a similar workout to how hard it was the first time through.

The CrossFit program is far different from most other exercise regimens.  There is no need to invest in expensive equipment, but you will still get a well rounded and efficient workout to bring your fitness up to a higher level.  The changing routines will keep you interested while providing a fun challenge while getting and staying in shape.
